Davis, Samuel C.


b. in Brookline, Massachusetts; d. October 15, 1882, in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1835, Davis traveled from Massachusetts to St. Louis, Missouri, to open a dry goods store. Davis formed a partnership with J. R. Stanford and David R. Griggs. Together, the three men opened S. C. Davis and Company, which became one of the leading dry goods wholesalers in the Midwest. In 1865, Davis retired from his business and moved to Boston, Massachusetts.
